The Advanced Media Workflow Association (formerly The AAF Association) was founded in 2000 to foster the implementation of AAF in the industry.
The AAF Association maintains the AAF sopecification and provides an OpenSource reference implementation.
Metaglue Corporation has been involved with the AAF Association since the beginning and contributes to the
specification and the reference software.

The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) develops and maintains
formal standards for many of the fundamentals of television and motion pictures. These include the structure of the
SMPTE Metadata Registry and KLV Encoding (upon which AAF and MXF depend), and the the MXF specification.

The SMPTE Registration Authority provides a public repository for several labelling standards, including the SMPTE Metadata Registry,
SMPTE Unique Material Identifiers (UMIDs), and MPEG Format Identifiers.
Diffuser provides an interface to the SMPTE Metadata Registry for offline reference, submission of new public registration
requests, and for managing personal dictionaries overlaying the public standards.

The Pro-MPEG Forum conceived the MXF Specification in partnership with the AAF Association and assisted SMPTE with the
preparation of the formal standards.
The Pro-MPEG Forum now sponsors the MXF Implementer's Group.
